Mariner missing for two weeks rescued after sending up flare

Coast Guard helped rescue the missing mariner

A mariner missing for two weeks in the North West Pacific has been found by a commercial fishing crew after sending up a flare.

The man was spotted in a liferaft one morning in October around 70 miles NW of Cape Flattery by the crew of the Canadian fishing vessel. They radioed the Canadian Coast Guard, who took him to shore.

Sadly, a colleague of the mariner remains missing at the time of writing.

The two departed from Westport, Washington, USA, almost two weeks earlier on a 43-foot fishing boat, the Evening.

Concerns arose after they did not return as expected three days later. USCG crews searched 14,000 square miles over eight hours without success.
